Langkawi is a statuesque island of grace and beauty: however that does not mean she does not know how to let loose and live it up. Malaysia celebrates a number of annual religious festivals, so penciled into Langkawi’s social calendar is an array of prominent cultural festivals. The standard Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas celebrations are celebrated with pomp and circumstance but the island also commemorates a number of minor religious festivals. In addition to that Langkawi hosts some interesting, home-grown sporting events including the Sukma Sailing Competition, Iron Man Langkawi, Le Tour De Langkawi, Wilderness Langkawi Challenge, Pelangi Cup International Golf Open Championship and even the quirky Fire Extinguishing Competition!
