Scarborough Fish and Chips Restaurant is a humble blue-hued home cum restaurant that offers some of the best Western and seafood fare in Langkawi. Located down a lone stretch of road that runs parallel to Langkawi’s idyllic seaside, this is the perfect spot for visitors who want to grab a quick bite and enjoy a peaceful evening with fellow travel companions. The restaurant is easily recognisable with its sunshine yellow signboard and a parked campervan at Jalan Tanjung Rhu.
Scarborough Fish and Chips Restaurant is divided into two al fresco dining areas, both of which offer a panoramic view of the Andaman Sea and plenty of natural light and breeze. Diners can opt to dine on marble tables with a roof providing ample shade or dine right on the sandy beaches of Tanjung Rhu (we prefer the latter as there are plenty of trees in the area to shelter us from the scorching afternoon sun).

Menu-wise, there is a satisfying selection of appetisers, British fry-ups, meaty steaks, and fresh seafood complemented with thirst-quenching fruit juices, teas and coffee, as well as alcoholic beverages. True to its name, fish and chips offerings are aplenty in this restaurant, with snow fish (RM27), mackerel (RM32), barracuda (RM37), red snapper (RM42), salmon (RM47) and halibut (RM49) just to name a few.
The staffs are friendly and very helpful in recommending some of Scarborough Fish and Chips Restaurant’s specialities to indecisive diners. We decide on the pan-fried dory with a side of potato chips and salad. Priced at only RM18, the presentation is pleasantly simple with two thick and succulent pieces of dory meat and generous portions of chunky chips and a small plate of salad with malt vinegar dressing. The most commendable aspect of the dish is the authentic English-style batter: the dory is lightly battered and fried so that it is crispy without being greasy.
Scarborough Fish and Chips Restaurant is also well-frequented by both tourists and locals for its affordable alcoholic beverage menu. Diners can enjoy their choice of cider or wine for RM10 and ice cold beers such as Heineken, Guinness, Hoegaarden, and Carlsberg for less than RM9. The restaurant also serves coffee and tea for RM5 as well as fresh juices priced at RM10.
Overall, Scarborough Fish and Chips Restaurant is a pleasant establishment to stop by for lunch or dinner for travellers leisurely exploring this rather secluded part of Langkawi. The ambience is comfortable and the beach is less touristy compared to most on the island, with white sand and clear blue water, not to mention a great sunset view that’s perfect for beautiful snapshots.
