Shopping in Padang Matsirat

Airport, Field of Burnt Rice, Atma Alam Batik Village

Padang Matsirat does not offer much duty-free and modern shopping except in the airport, but over here, you can get a wide range of traditional souvenirs, handicrafts and Batik, a type of Malay-inspired floral fabric. The main places to shop are the Field of Burnt Rice and the Atma Alam Batik Village.

Airport

The airport is a good place to hunt for duty-free goods, especially when you’re in a rush to do some last minute shopping before heading on your plane. There is a wide range of outlets that retail duty-free cigarettes, confectionery, alcohol and perfume, but the best place to buy these products would still be in Kuah.

Field of Burnt Rice

Another one of Langkawi’s prominent landmarks, the Field of Burnt Rice is accessed by a narrow road. Along this narrow road, Malay traders have set up colourful stalls that sell souvenirs, clothes and mementos along with some traditional food. The prices here are quite reasonable and this is a good place to get something to bring back home to your family.

Atma Alam Batik Village

The Atma Alam Batik Village is a Batik factory and shop located on a nice compound that’s filled with lush greenery and flowers. Inside is a large shop which has an extensive range of Batik apparel, probably the largest in Langkawi. These Batik fabrics are intricately woven with flower motifs using silk, providing a fashionable piece of clothing for casual or formal wear. Original oil paintings, souvenirs and mementos also go on sale here.
