What to Do at Night in Pantai Tengah

Most locals will tell you that the Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah area is the best place for a night of fun. Everything you need – dancing, drinking, pool tables, live music, good food and better-looking people are a dime a dozen here – and best of all, the ocean, is only a heartbeat away.

Nonetheless as the evening wears on, lots of folks end up along the Pantai Tengah stretch – a well-trodden nightspot. Locals are familiar with it – visitors often make the mistake of assuming that Pantai Cenang is the only place to drink the night away.

Without beating around the bush, Pantai Cenang’s got the most bars on Langkawi Island but Pantai Tengah’s got one or two bona fide clubs where you can groove to retro, hip hop and techno music. Don’t be mistaken though, if you’re an inveterate pub-crawler; you’re not going to need several shots of double espresso and an ice-pack for your head in the morning - Pantai Tengah’s after-hour’s scene isn’t especially headache-inducing.

El Toro Espanol Tapas Bar & Cafe

Serving up a plethora of good Spanish cuisine, El Toro is a relative newbie on the Langkawi scene. L’Osteria is a great place to get some authentic Italian cuisine but it’s also a really good place to watch the sunset in the horizon and enjoy a few drinks. Reggae House

This bar-by-the-beach is in point of fact less reggae-oriented, as its name suggests, and more of rough-and-ready affair with live bands. Beer is cheap here and in the evenings you can see some of the locals partaking in beach soccer or volleyball as well as snoozing in hammocks.

Sunba Retro Bar

This is one of Langkawi’s few clubs that stays open till you see the sun rising in the distance. This mega-dance club has live music or a DJ every night of the week. Drinks are pricey; try the Sunba Sunba, but the atmosphere is very upscale and worth it. Boasting all-wooden décor, Sunba resembles Phuket and Bali’s nightlife scene with 60’s and 80’s hits as an aural backdrop. You’ll encounter a lot of single people here.
